Lazy Guildmaster Contest at DPWR.NET

From Alahmnat;

Once again, the Archive finds itself lacking in information prior to the next Myst release, and once aain, I’m too buzy / lazy to add the information myself, so it’s time for some more fan-to-fan bribery.

Starting today, and running until midnight (Eastern Time) on September 5th, any person who contributes new material to the Information Archive will be entered to win the contest. There will be one grand prize winner and three runners-up.

Prizes are not yet finalized (Kha’tie went on vacation), but I’m looking into getting some serious Myst swag for the grand prize, and some equally good but not quite as abundant swag for the runners-up.

To participate, you will need to register for an account here at DPWR. We ask this for two reasons: 1) so that we can track what entries you’ve posted, and 2) so that if you win, we can actually contact you. Please make sure that your email address is valid before registering. A confirmation email will be sent to you after you register to ensure your address is valid. Please check the spam folder of your mailbox, because some filters incorrectly consider forum emails like this to be spam. If you already have an account, we ask that you please make sure the email address in your profile is up-to-date.

After registering, simply head to the Archive, select the proper category for your entry, and click “New Article” at the top right. Please also be sure to read the Posting Guidelines for the Archive before entering.

Good luck!

Important Myst V Preorder Info (Mac Users)

From Alahmnat;

I’ve been chasing the Ubi store for a straight answer on the system requirement listings for the standard edition box for the past two weeks and I’ve finally gotten an answer out of them, but I don’t think many of you are gonna like it…

The Limited Edition box, as stated at the UbiSoft store, will be a hybrid Mac/PC DVD-ROM release.

The standard edition release in the white box, however, will be PC ONLY, and will ship on 3 CDs. Don’t ask me to explain it, I don’t think it makes any sense either. However, if you’re a Mac user who has pre-ordered the white-box version of the game (whether from Ubi or anywhere else), I strongly suggest canceling your order and pre-ordering (or otherwise planning on purchasing) the black-box Limited Edition. I’m looking into whether the LE will be available for purchase in other stores like Best Buy and Gamestop, and I’m also seeing if this is just for the US or if it applies internationally (in which case they darn well had better be shipping the LE overseas…).

This has been double checked by Khatie of Ubisoft and is found to be true.

MarkD from CyanWorlds had this to say in response;

Unfortunately, this is true.

But before the conspiracy theorist get going, here is the reason why:
There is a bug in InstallShield that we are using for Myst V, that doesn’t allow the install files to span multiple disks on the Mac when using a Mac/PC hybrid with multiple languages. It is a complicated issue that InstallShield can’t fix in time for the release of Myst V.
So, the only option was to put the hybrid version of DVD only.
